Apartment Features Ideal for Short Leases or Temporary Moves

While many apartments offer long-term options for tenants, you may only need an apartment for a short amount of time. You may need a place to stay for six months or less if you plan to relocate in the near future. As you seek out an apartment with a short lease, you should look for a variety of features.

The features will make the transition a lot easier and give you a good place to stay through the transition stage. Check out some of the options and have a good idea of what to look for the next time you go apartment hunting.

Furnished Apartments

If you only plan to stay at an apartment for a short period of time, you have no reason to waste time and money on furniture and decorations. As you shop for apartments, look for options that are fully furnished. Not only will you have all of the appliances you need, but the apartments will also come with furniture to accommodate your needs.

The furniture typically includes basics like a bed, couch, and dining room table. Extra accessories may include lamps, side tables, and a dresser. Read full apartment listings to learn all of the furnishings the apartment will include. Even if you have some of the furniture already, you can keep the items in storage or at another location until you're ready to move.

Community Laundry Options

A lot of modern apartments come with washer and dryer connections so you can easily purchase and install personal appliances. If you are only staying at an apartment temporarily, then the last thing you want to worry about is hauling a washer and dryer in and out of the apartment. A community-based laundry service is one of the best options.

The washer and dryer are typically coin-based units that multiple apartments share. If you cannot find an apartment with a laundry area, then look for laundromats located close to potential apartments. You do not need to use the laundry hook-ups if they are available.

Street-Level Apartments

You have to expend a lot of energy if you move multiple times within a short time period. The problems only increase if you have to climb multiple flights of stairs. When you rent a street-level apartment, you will have easy access to move into and out of the apartment. If you have any furniture, you do not need to worry about navigating up steep stairs or getting around sharp angles.

Many street-level apartments give you the chance to park your car close to the door as well. Easily load and unload items out of the vehicle without the need to travel far. You could also rent a moving truck and pull it right up to your apartment when you're moving in and out.

Single-Bedroom Apartments

Some of the more affordable apartments you can find are single-bedroom apartments. You have much less square footage, but the apartments are typically cheaper than multi-room options. For a temporary situation, the compromise on space will help you save money each month.

Those monthly savings could go towards a longer-term apartment rental at a different location or could contribute to the down payment on a house. This is why it's important to compare prices on apartments and find the best deals for your temporary stay.

As you compare prices, look for the utilities that come with the apartment. A monthly rental price may seem higher, but it might include a lot of the utilities to offset the costs. For example, an apartment could include water, sewer, and trash fees. Some also come with free cable so you do not need to sign a contract with a cable company to have service.
